Art Academy’s Advanced Photography Course for Adults is an in-depth exploration of photography, taught by Mr. Christopher Azzopardi, an international award-winning photographer and Malta Photographer of the Year multiple times. This course serves as a follow-up to our Photography Course for Beginners and is designed for individuals who are already comfortable with their camera and wish to further refine their skills. It includes both indoor sessions at Art Academy in Mosta and outdoor sessions at various locations, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.
Course Outline
Lesson 1: Lighting
Understand the advantages and disadvantages of using natural light.
Explore how to effectively use light meters, speedlights, and studio lights.
Discover the best light modifiers to use with different types of lighting conditions.
Lesson 2: Still-Life Photography
Learn to compose and capture artistic still-life arrangements.
Master the techniques of lighting, angles, and framing for stunning still-life photos.
Lesson 3: High-Speed Photography
Explore the world of high-speed photography and how to capture split-second moments using limited equipment.
Practice techniques for freezing motion in an artistic and dynamic way.
Lesson 4: Environmental Portraiture
Engage in an outdoor photo-shoot to capture portraits in their natural environments.
Learn Christopher Azzopardi’s approach to environmental portraiture, with hands-on experience shooting portraits.
Gain insight into integrating background elements to tell a story through portraits.
Lesson 5: Macro Photography
Distinguish between macro and close-up photography.
Understand which lenses and adapters are best for macro shots.
Learn to use both specialized macro lenses and extension tubes to capture intricate details.
Lesson 6: Seascape Photography
Visit one of Malta’s most beautiful beaches for a seascape photography session.
Learn how to compose and shoot stunning artistic seascapes, focusing on what to include or exclude in your shots.
Outdoor Session to capture the beauty of natural landscapes.
Lesson 7: Architecture Photography
Discover techniques for shooting both interior and exterior architectural photography.
Learn how to correct converging lines using Photoshop and techniques for improving architectural shots.
Lesson 8: Low Light Photography
Master the art of low-light photography in an outdoor session.
Learn how to use a tripod for longer exposures and how to shoot in low-light conditions when a tripod is not available.
Lesson 9: Black and White Photography
Learn how to shoot images that are perfect for black and white photography.
Explore post-processing techniques to create striking black and white images in Photoshop.
Lesson 10: Project & Critique
In this final lesson, students will receive a specific project title 5 weeks in advance.
Each student will prepare 3 images based on the title provided.
The class will be followed by a constructive critique where Christopher Azzopardi provides feedback on each image.
This course is ideal for those looking to elevate their photography skills to a professional level, learn advanced techniques, and refine their creative vision. Students will leave this course with the knowledge and tools necessary to capture the world in innovative and breathtaking ways.
Prerequisite: Completion of the Photography Course for Beginners or equivalent experience.

Requirements: Age 18+, Digital Camera (DSLR) or mirrorless camera, a good basic knowledge of photography or has attended the Photography Course for Beginners at Art Academy
